Robert Sherman

Voice & Piano

Picture
Originally from Mexico, NY, (yes, it really exists), operatic tenor Robert Sherman has performed all over the world, but currently calls Tampa, FL home. Interested in a wide variety of music, Robert specializes in classical western music, Opera and Broadway show-tunes, both contemporary and standard.

An active performer himself, Robert has appeared most recently in the title role of Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito, and as Ferrando in Così fan tutte in Salzburg, Austria with the William Lewis School of Opera. This past season, Robert performed regularly with Opera Tampa and St. Petersburg Opera in their choruses for productions including Puccini’s La Bohème and Bizet’s Carmen. In addition to his operatic work, Robert currently sings as the tenor section intern for St. Mark’s Episcopal church in Carrollwood, FL where he has performed solo works from Bach’s Mass in B Minor and spirituals. Robert’s most recent theatrical works include Tony in Terrance McNally’s Masterclass with The Studio@620 in St. Petersburg, and Duke Sr. in Shaina Taub’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s As You Like It.

Originally from NY, Robert is a SpringboardNYC alum, and current volunteer with The American Theatre Wing, volunteering for events including their annual galas, The Obie Awards, The Andrew Lloyd Webber Young Song Writer Competition, The Jonathan Larson Grants, and The Tony Awards. During his time in NYC, Robert sang Christmas carols 3 seasons with the New York Holiday Choristers, most notably as a featured guest vocalist on ABC’s Good Morning America’s 2019 Christmas Eve episode.

Robert holds a dual BA in music and theatre from Buffalo State University in Buffalo, NY, where he was granted an undergraduate research fellowship for his work with vocal pedagogy. With the theatre department’s Anne Frank Project, Robert was also privileged to teach theatre in Rwanda, Africa focusing on conflict resolution, community building, and identity exploration. Robert also holds a MM from The University of South Florida in Vocal Performance, where he served as the voice area Graduate Assistant and was inducted into the University’s chapter of Pi Kappa Lambda for his musical and academic achievements. During his studies, Robert traveled to Assisi, Italy to perform in The Assisi Performing Arts Festival, Angers, France to perform in Isabelle Aboulker’s Leçons de français aux étudiants américains, and Salzburg, Austria to perform in Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito, Così fan tutte, Der Schauspieldirektor, & Bastien und Bastienne.

As both piano and voice instructor, Robert’s teaching philosophy focuses on building a strong foundation of musical knowledge centered around consistency and expression.
