When is tuition due?
Tuition is due on the 1st of every month and is considered late after the 10th. Late payments will be subject to a $25 late fee. First payment is due on the first lesson day, and all subsequent payments will be due on the 1st of the following month. Payment must be received before lessons are offered. Failure to pay tuition will result in lesson suspension and a potential loss of their time slot. Deliberate non-payment of any amount will be turned over for collection and relevant collection fees will be added.
Do you offer trial lessons?
The Leopold School does offer trial lessons for piano and guitar. Instead of a trial lesson, all potential voice students are brought in for an audition/vocal evaluation to get to know their individual goals and needs prior to placing them with a teacher. Auditions typically run between 10-20 minutes- there is no preparation required. For guitar and piano, we encourage parents and students to meet with their potential teacher for an interview prior to booking lessons to ensure every student is matched with the best fit teacher.
Are books provided at The Leopold School?
For your convenience, lesson books for piano and guitar are sold in-house. These are provided to the students as needed for their lessons, and the books are billed to your account. You are not required to purchase books from us, and in some special order cases it might be faster to purchase the books on amazon or another online platform.
What happens if I can't make a lesson?
As is standard procedure for private music schools, a student’s reserved lesson time will be honored conscientiously, and it is assumed that he or she will make it a priority to attend every scheduled lesson at the time agreed upon. No adjustment or reduction in tuition is possible for student absences, even if one or more lessons in a given month are missed, tuition remains the same. Your monthly payment is to reserve your lesson time, whether you attend it or not. If you arrive late to your lesson, those minutes lost are forfeit and will not be made up by the teacher.
Students may receive up to 3 make-up credits per school year for an excused absence (one make-up per quarter). An excused absence means that either the office or the student's teacher receives at least 24 hours notice prior to the absence. No-shows forfeit their lesson, and missed make-up lessons are also forfeit. Teachers will have designated make-up lesson availability each month, and it is the student’s responsibility to sign up for a make-up lesson time that works for them through the student portal (https://www.theleopoldschool.com/student-portal.html). Make-up lesson time slots can be viewed and scheduled directly on the calendar or at the front desk when the reception is open. All make-up credits expire June 30th, 2024.
In the event that the teacher must miss or cancel a lesson, a make-up lesson will promptly follow. If a make-up lesson is simply impossible due to their schedule or extenuating circumstances, a tuition adjustment will be made and applied as a credit on the following month's invoice.
How does the school year calendar work?
The Leopold School's regular school year runs from August through May for a maximum total of 36 weeks of lessons. The studio’s breaks are closely aligned with most public and private school calendars. We are closed for Labor day, Thanksgiving, Winter, Spring break, and Summer break. Those days are built into our schedule, and there are no billed lessons those weeks for the regular school year.
Our Summer Session runs independently of our regular school year and provides students with an opportunity to continue their studies throughout the summer should they wish (June and July). Teacher schedule and availability is limited since most families choose to take a break to accommodate summer activities and vacations.
Are there performance opportunities at The Leopold School?
Yes, the Leopold School hosts yearly spring recitals at the end of our school year (usually early- mid May). We alternate every other year between a Christmas Recital in December and Fall/Winter Recitals. We also have other performance enrichment opportunities that can be seen here. Students are encouraged to participate in recitals, but never required to perform. Participation in recitals is offered to those who have met the eligibility requirements.
Does The Leopold School provide instruments?
No, we do not sell or provide instruments for students. Our staff is more than happy to make recommendations to you on what instruments to purchase and where.
What happens if I need to cancel lessons?
As is standard for music schools, we require 30-days written notice sent to the [email protected] or by filling out a Lesson Cancellation Request Form for lesson termination. Your final payment will be prorated to only include lessons within the 30 day period starting with the date of the emailed written notice. Students may be reinstated after termination only if their account shows no outstanding balance and by paying a new registration fee of $40.00.
